Full Match Report

?Twas another beautiful spring day in East Meon. With only a splash of damp earlier in the week, the pitch remained hard and firm. Andrew successfully lost the toss meaning we got to bat. Fantastic. XII Men, a team we have played against for years, with mixed results, most notably a few years back when a gentleman who was late for a wedding took us apart.
Tim Clay and Ali W led the way. Tim, who was going to play along the ground took no time at all to start smashing it around the park. Ali at the other end did not? He scratched around and survived an early insanely easy drop. He out lasted Tim though as he skied one into the air out for 25 including a 6. Ali somehow hit three boundaries before edging one to the keeper. In came Jimmy who was recovering from Sunday pad rash but relishing a chance after his Thursday night heroics. I, Will joined him at the crease and we quietly went about our business. Nothing flashy, nothing swashbuckling but the score grew. Jimmy eventually got bored and tried to bludgeon a straight one, out for a solid 54. Andrew came in, missed a straight one, out for a golden quacker. George Barnes who just wanted an East Meon run took no time at all and played very nicely for his 14 before Norris cleaned him up too. Mark hit a beautiful cover drive for 6, ran well but not well enough and got run out again. Jimmy?s turn next!
David B was caught and Rupert also missed a straight one for a golden quacker. All in all it doesn?t sound great. But I hit a few runs and ended my season on 60 not out. A score of over 200, surely something to work with.
Rupert down the hill and Josh up it. Josh?s whole family all watching whilst sitting on one giant chair. Compared to a couple of weeks ago when he went for 10 an over, he bowled 6 perfect over, 2 wickets for 4, including 4 maidens. Rupert also bowled well and 6 overs for 7 runs and unlucky to be wicket less.
David B followed this up with so much fire. Malcolm Marshall type fire. 7 overs, 2 for 27. So much was his fire he got voted man of the match. In there somewhere was an incredible one handed slip catch. Should always use two hands but well done Jimmy and champagne. So who was to get teddy? We were all over them, only one last partnership to break to expose the tail. Ball goes up, ball comes down and through the retreating Andrew. As captain, he will rue this miss. A big chance gone and the batsman Norris carried his bat for the next 15 overs. I got a little Cameo and bowled a few of the tail but was expensive being carved through 1st slip multiple times?. They ended 9 down for 127, 87 short of us.
Catches win matches but hey, a winning draw and a beautiful day. I will miss playing for you all. It is truly what I love doing!
