Full Match Report

After a catastrophic 10 wicket loss in our opening game, Captain De Wobble made a bold move to abdicate for the Easter break, and exiled himself to Suffolk with the family. This left Vice-captain Ollie with the task of victory against our most local derby of Clanfield.

Would we rise like Jesus on Easter Sunday?

It was a full compliment of Atkinsons and a debut appearance from Rupert Smith. He?s been holed up in Frogmore for almost 4 years but thought it time to pick up the bat and ball. What could go wrong!

Lost toss and bowling, EMCC set about our attack. Single pringle Nick Sole and Sticko opened up with tight bowling. Whilst Sticko was economical but wicketless, Soleman snaffled a trio of wickets including their danger batsmen.

The wickets kept falling with Chairman George and Wayne picking up the next 2 wickets leaving Clanfield 65 for 5! Quite the change from the week previous.

Josh Haslett also bowled some of his best figures, taking 3 wickets for 10. We had a slight interlude over from the debutant, who advised me from the outset that he was not a bowler. As part of my woke inclusivity drive, he had to bowl. And bowl he did, all 13 balls for his singular over for 12 runs.

Ed Rafferty, fielded well until a boundary saving dive ended in him spraining his ankle and being taken to minor injuries. Get well soon! Wayne was equally as good at fielding, reminiscent of Shay Given parrying every cut shot with either his hands or feet.

The scene was set for Josh or Nick Sole to take a baggy green cap. Nick Sole picked up his 4th so Josh was on a mission to prevent the cap by taking the last wicket. Try he did, achieve he could not. The chairman instead for the second time in his career, took the wicket to prevent a green cap. Nick bowled well but he was given 11 overs to achieve the feat.

Tea was pork heavy with 108 to chase.

Will, in his memorial game before the twins arrive, opened with Rupert, looking to redeem for his bowling. Our two experienced umpires of Mooro and Nick Sole saw them powerfully beat the ball about the park. They formed an unbroken partnership with scores of 48 and 37 plus plenty of extras. They did try running each other out, but saw home an emphatic 10 wicket victory by 4pm after just 14 overs. A fantastic unbeaten knock from Rupert, and welcome to the club!

With bad light a long way off, an ultra friendly T10 game was played. 72 posted by EMCC and Clanfield reaching our score with just 2 balls to spare.

Great fun, lots of Easter tipple infused supporters appreciating a cricket spectacle.
I hope the Captain can continue the 10 wicket margins, in our favour of course.
